Professional Development Advisor
Linda Thurman, Director for Employer Relations and Student Professional Development, is assigned and available to all new undergraduates who enroll into the College of Engineering. With over 25 years of technical recruiting, employer relations, professional development, and career advising experience, Ms. Thurman is a valuable resource for our students. Ms. Thurman meets with students one-on-one to discuss a wide range of topics such as choosing or changing majors, internships, co-ops, study abroad, interviewing skills, job search process, networking, professional licensure, graduate school and more. Ms. Thurman also coordinates the Multi-disciplinary Professional Development courses, ENGR 3295 and ETGR 3295 and hosts various events that allow students to engage with alumni and employers. She was the first non-engineer to serve as Chair of the North Carolina Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
University Career Center
The University Career Center offers self-assessment tools, job shadowing, career treks, informational interviews, and many other options for students to explore majors and gain relevant technical work experience regardless of the stage of their college career.
